A set of eight French majolica oyster-serving plates of large diameters and with a wonderful aqua-green glaze, decorated with haut relief oyster shells on a bed of seaweed, each plate designed to hold six scallops or oysters plus a slice of lemon in the centre. The undersides stamped with the 'Gien' pottery hallmarks. Area of the Loire, circa 1950.
