A Bust of Beethoven

A French Art Deco period bronze-patinated terracotta bust of the composer Ludwig Van Beethoven, depicted here with a typically stern expression, signed by Marcel André Bouraine (1886-1948) a well-known Parisian sculptor of the Art Deco period whose works can be found in collections and museums, including at the Art Institute of Chicago. Signed on the plinth M. Bouraine. The downward-looking pose suggests that this bust should be displayed in an elevated position, for example, above an upright piano. Area of Paris, circa 1930.
