An 18th Century Carpenter’s Workbench

  • Stock ID: 11980
  • Reference No: ML

An 18th century French carpenter's workbench made from a massive, single plank of oak, worn by many generations of use. Standing above four large legs supporting a shelf. Note the early construction technique, with the tenoms showing through mortises cut into the top. Retaining its original wrought iron and timber vices. This workbench can be used as a quirky hall table, or console. Area of Normandy, circa 1780.

Condition report: Complete, in very work and dry condition, the surfaces showing marks and wear from generations of carpentry work. The rear of this workbench has had the addition of a tool rack, which we'd suggest could be removed.
Dimensions: 210 x 55 cm, height 80 cm.
