An exceptional set of mid 19th century French Napoleon III period, Louis XV style gilt bronze chenets (firedogs/ fender) of good quality, decorated with very fine, fretted foliate motifs. The central fender slips into the rear of the dogs so that the whole set is adjustable in width. Area of Paris, circa 1860.
