A fine Louis XVI style tulipwood parquetry-inlaid Bureau Plat desk, decorated with Parisian-quality gilt brass escutcheons, drawer mouldingd and mounts, the top framed by a moulded gilt brass edge, fitted with the original, well-burnished calf leather with gilt-embossed edges, the two pull-out extending slides also fitted with the same embossed leather. Please note the elegant proportions and the exquisite workmanship, including the jewellery-like quality of the gilt brass mounts, typical work of 19th century ‘Faubourg Saint Antoine’ workshops in Paris. The ‘Faubourg Saint Antoine’ in Paris has for centuries been famous for its excellent cabinetmaker workshops. Internally, a metal label is inscribed with the maker's mark and their address: "Ebenisterie Bronzes - Haentges Freres - Fabricants - 6 Rue Titon, Paris". Provenance: the auction of the contents of the Hotel Le Crillon in Paris. Area of Paris, circa 1890.

Condition report: In very good and unrestored condition, showing slight wear in keeping with its age. Requiring locks to be serviced and keys cut (keys with brass heads), surface cleaning, touch-ups, light polishing. The original leather needs cleaning and feeding with saddle-soap.
Dimensions: Width 70 cm, length 140 cm extending to 210 cm. Height 75 cm. Each of the pull-out slides extends the desk by 35 cm.
