A fine Louis XVI style tulipwood parquetry-inlaid Bureau Plat desk, decorated with Parisian-quality gilt brass escutcheons, drawer mouldingd and mounts, the top framed by a moulded gilt brass edge, fitted with the original, well-burnished calf leather with gilt-embossed edges, the two pull-out extending slides also fitted with the same embossed leather. Please note the elegant proportions and the exquisite workmanship, including the jewellery-like quality of the gilt brass mounts, typical work of 19th century ‘Faubourg Saint Antoine’ workshops in Paris. The ‘Faubourg Saint Antoine’ in Paris has for centuries been famous for its excellent cabinetmaker workshops. Internally, a metal label is inscribed with the maker's mark and their address: "Ebenisterie Bronzes - Haentges Freres - Fabricants - 6 Rue Titon, Paris".
