A large, late 18th century French solid pine Chateaux's kitchen table, the top faded and well-burnished by use, and with a myriad of cut marks. Standing on four elegant Jacob design (Georges Jacob 1739-1814) baluster-turned legs, joined by a long 'H' stretcher. Note the excellent, narrow proportions and the wonderful, soft and faded patination. Note also the raised knots of harder wood, standing out in the rails, worn by feet. The top's worn timbers have a 'beach at low tide' corrugated texture, where the softer grain of the pine has worn more than the harder grain. Area of Isle de France (Greater Paris), circa 1790.
