An 18th century French Louis XVI period mahogany and gilt brass-mounted commode of five drawers, of excellent Neoclassical proportions, retaining its original, shaped and moulded Carrara marble top. The Honduras mahogany has acquired a nicely faded warm-brown mahogany patination, which is beautifully offset by the gilt brass mounts, the drawer mouldings and the original handles and escutcheons. Please note the strong, masculine character and elegance of this commode. Area of Paris, circa 1780.
