A smaller-proportioned French Napoleon III period, Louis XVI style rosewood parquetry and marquetry inlaid commode chest of drawers, fitted with its original gilt brass 'ring' handles, 'ribbon and wreath' key escutcheons and 'sabot' feet. The stepped front is decorated with an inlaid urn overflowing with flowers and with book-matched parquetry and cross-banding. Made with very fine workmanship typical of cabinetmaking workshops of the Parisian 'Faubourg Saint Antoine'. The colour of the inlaid timbers have acquired a soft tonality with time. Retaining the original shaped and moulded edge "Breche" marble top. Area of Paris, circa 1870.
