A French Louis XVI style, bow-fronted and swept-flank commode retaining the original, shaped and moulded 'Arabescato Vagli' marble top, the book-matched and cross-banded rosewood timbers beautifully offset by the finely cast, chased and fire-gilt bronze mouldings and mounts, standing on turned and fluted Jacob style feet. Please note the very high cabinetmaking quality of this piece, typical of the quality workmanship of the Parisian 'Faubourg Saint Antoine' where the Parisian cabinet makers have traditionally worked. Area of Paris, circa 1900.
This commode was made in circa 1900, and is an exact replica of the 18th century commode which is currently on display at the "Petit Trianon" in Versailles, that was made by the famous Parisian cabinetmaker Jean-François Leleu (1729-1807) .
