A fine and very elegant, 19th century French Louis XVI style, mahogany commode chest of drawers of very good Neoclassical proportions. Fitted with gilt brass foliate scroll handles and with knotted bow and wreath-shaped escutcheons, the two drawers are framed by fine "string-of-pearls" gilt brass mouldings. Retaining the original shaped and moulded-edge Carrara marble top. Please note the jewellery-like quality of the gilt brass handles. Being of a shallow depth, this commode would suit being used as an entrance hall console table. Paris, circa 1880.
