An elegant set of eight, 19th century French Napoleon III period, Louis XVI style, finely carved Cuban mahogany "Montgolfier" dining chairs of very good design and proportions, each chair fitted with a finely shaped and carved back-rest. Please note: The Montgolfier Brothers were famous for having flown the first hot air balloon in 1783- which gave rise to the late 18th century French fashion for balloon-shaped Montgolfier chairs. These are sturdy and comfortable, faithful copies made in the Napoleon III period. Area of Paris, circa 1870.
