A French Regence Armchair

An 18th century French Regence period 'Fauteuil Cabriolet' armchair, the solid walnut decorated with haut and bas relief carved foliate motifs, the ample and deep seat and the broad backrest are fitted with finely woven rattan cane. Retaining a leatherette-upholstered squab cushion with a protective timber bottom, so as to better protect the woven rattan seat. Please note the comfortable lean of the backrest, and the bow-saw marks on the underside denoting its early construction techniques. Area of Paris, circa 1730.
