A 19th century French Napoleon III period, Louis XVI style, solid walnut ‘Marquise en Corbeille’ (wider than usual) armchair, the frame decorated with a haut-relief carved running-ribbon motif, and with Neoclassical motifs including paterae and acanthus leaf motifs. The seats and curved backs upholstered, the pure silk covering fabric possibly in a usable condition. The original milk-paint finish is nicely worn. Very comfortable to sit on. Area of Paris, circa 1870.
