A fine French Louis XVI style gilt brass-mounted cherrywood bureau plat desk of good design and proportions, two pull-out extensions opening at the ends. The top and the two pull-out extensions are fitted with leather inserts. The desk’s decorations are restrained, with Neoclassical escutcheons and gilt brass mouldings around the top and drawers. The desk is finished on both sides, so that it can stand in the centre of a room. Paris, circa 1930.
Condition report: In un-restored condition, requiring circa $1,000 in restoration work to bring it to it best. It would cost circa $800 to change the current leather with fresh, gilt-edge leather.
