An 18th century French carved Carrara marble kitchen mortar used for crushing nuts, herbs and garlic, typically decorated with its four protruding 'ears'. Sold here with a later, turned hardwood pestle. Area of Paris, circa 1780.
Condition report: In good and original, unrestored condition, showing surface wear in keeping with its age and use.
