A fine, Napoleon III period, Louis XV style 'bureau plat' ebonised pearwood and gilt brass mounted desk, decorated with finely cast, chased and gilt brass handles and mounts which are beautifully offset against the ebonised timber background. The top is fitted with a leather insert decorated with embossed and gilt edges, above a drawer fitted into the front rail. Please note the harmonious proportions of this piece. This desk is double-sided, so that the rear, which is also decorated with gilt brass handles and mounts, can face towards a room. Paris, circa 1870.
Condition report: Complete and in fully restored condition. The high quality embossed leather insert is freshly laid.
