A 19th century French Napoleon III period oil on canvas painting depicting a young woman clutching a sheaf of wheat, having just cut it with her sickle, as an allegory for Summer, a sheaf of wheat also being an allegory for Wealth. Fitted into its original carved, pastille work and gilt frame with an oval slip. Please note the nicely aged surface of the painted canvas. Area of Paris, circa 1870.
