A 19th century French glazed ceramic novelty plate, known as an 'Assiette Parlante' (a talking-plate), with a scene depicting a military officer being dressed-down by fellow soldiers. The inscription "Troupiers" refers to troops, as well as to any bawdy barracks-humour. France, circa 1880.
