An important 18th century French Regence period solid oak 'Armoire de Mariage' decorated with finely carved haut-relief trellises of leaves and flowers, and with a bouquet of flowers centred on the arched and stepped 'Chapeau de Gendarme' pediment. Standing on elegantly scrolled feet. Internally fitted with its original shelves and drawers, this Armoire retains all its original locks and keys, all in good working order. Please note that there are two secret doors, opening on each of the flanks of this Armoire. The compartments behind these doors were designed to house secret items, like weapons, belonging to the original owner. The Armoires made in the area of Bayeux are considered to be amongst the finest in France. Area of Bayeux, Lower Normandy, circa 1730.
