A Marble Satyr Fountain

A 19th century Italian Renaissance style, carved solid Carrara marble fountain in the shape of a naked Satyr sitting on a conch shell, blowing water through his cupped hands. This sculpture is in the Florentine Mannerist style of Bartolomeo Ammannati, famous for the Fountain of Neptune in Piazza Signoria, Florence. Please also note a stylistic reference to the "Dwarf Morgante" astride a turtle, in the Florentine Boboli Gardens. Area of Florence, circa 1870. 

Condition report: In good and as found condition, showing some surface erosion and a patina of lichens, typical of its long outdoor use. An old repair to one of the Satyr's horns.

Dimensions: Height 90 cm, width 62 cm, depth 50 cm.
