A large, shaped and painted timber model of an Australian Couta Boat, typically fitted with a gaff sail, and a jib attached to a curved bowsprit. Complete with rigging and linen sails and tiller. Couta boats were designed in the 19th century for fishing from Queenscliff and Sorrento in Port Philip Bay, and are very seaworthy, fast and nimble. Retaining its original stand.
