An 18th century French Louis XV period solid walnut, five-drawer, serpentine-front commode chest of drawers standing on Cabriole feet, the front fitted with the original, finely cast and fire-gilt bronze handles and escutcheons. Note the excellent and original, well-burnished walnut patination. The rear is stamped with the 'Jurande' maker's mark: "N.Petit". Nicolas Petit was appointed 'Maitre' on the 21st of January 1761. He opened his workshop named "Au Nom de Jésus", in the 'Faubourg Saint Antoine' Street in Paris, famous for its excellent cabinetmaker workshops. His popularity grew and he became a representative for his corporation in 1784. Area of Paris, circa 1770.
