A 19th century French reconstituted stone bust of the Marianne, a national emblem of the French Republic. The figure wears the iconic Phrygian cap and symbolises Liberty, Reason and the Civic Virtues of the Republic. In France, the Marianne is a commonly found emblem in town halls and law courts. The inscription at the rear of the plinth reads "A. Picard & Kaan, Paris". Area of Paris, circa 1870.
