A large, late 19th century French oil-on-canvas painted theatre backdrop depicting an imaginary landscape with a waterfall, a temple and several animals. Retaining the original carved and gilded Neoclassical frame. Area of Normandy, circa 1880.

Condition report: In good and un-restored condition. The painted canvas with some losses of paint and crease marks. Retaining the original, removable carved and gilt wood framing elements.
