A pair of large Baluster Andirons

A pair of large-sized 19th century French Napoleon III period, Charles V style, bronze and wrought iron baluster-shaped 'chenet' andirons (fire dogs) of elegantly tall and broad proportions, of good quality and weight. The baluster uprights decorated with raised garooning and tipped with stylised flames, standing on plinths decorated with volutes and lions' heads and paws, in the 14th century French Marmouset style. These fire dogs are fitted at the rear with sturdy wrought iron brackets to support firewood and/ or a fire basket. Area of Paris, circa 1870.

Condition report: Complete and in good and original, unrestored condition. Requiring cleaning, waxing and buffing.
