The French Marianne

A 19th century French plaster Marianne, a national emblem of the French Republic. The figure wears the iconic Phrygian cap and symbolises liberty, reason and the civic virtues of the Republic. In France, the Marianne is a commonly found emblem in town halls and law courts, but it is unusual to find one of such large proportions and for it to be seen in profile.
